The University of Novo mesto Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (UNM FME) is a faculty that at first glance does not differ from other faculties in Slovenia but with its way of working it offers you the opportunity to gain enviable knowledge and the ability to work and make decisions independently, which is the basis for success in today's global world.
UNM FME aims to acquire knowledge from various technologies used in industry, e.g. technologies for processing materials, technologies for technological processes in the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries, in the energy sector, selected technologies such as vacuum technology, thin layer technology, etc. This also includes basic knowledge of systems that enable the combination of device elements and innovative product design taking into account new technologies.
The basic aim of the study is to acquire quality knowledge useful in practice or for further studies at a second level. The study is mainly based on independent work with intensive support from mentors, professors and assistants. The basic motto is therefore not "know how" but "do". In the final year of study, the student has many options of his/her own choice within the framework of elective modules and elective courses, in the preparation of seminar papers and projects, in professional training and in the preparation of a diploma.
The faculty does not see the need to make students attentive listeners of lectures, but would like to provide them with an environment in which they can acquire the desired knowledge, i.e. make them students in the true sense of the word. Modern methods of study with modern tools (PC, CD, Internet, laboratory with practical exercises) make it possible to reduce the study process in the form of classical lectures and increasingly use methods that promote personal contact between the student and the teacher or assistant. Students must be able to communicate in a foreign language and work with computers (Word, Excel, PP and possibly Autocad, Inventor, SolidWorks or ANSYS).
The University of Novo mesto Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (UNM FME) is the first independent higher education and research institution in the statistical region Southeastern Slovenia to provide education, research and counselling in the field of mechanical engineering. In implementing these activities, the faculty integrates multidisciplinary disciplines: technical and natural sciences, economics, legal and business sciences and foreign language learning to provide extensive, high quality and useful knowledge. This is achieved through high-quality education programmes that are updated and adapted to international standards, highly qualified higher education teachers and associates, and capable and ambitious students who will acquire their knowledge through modern teaching methods and active participation in the educational process.
Although UNM FME is a young institution, it strives to establish itself domestically and in the world through the quality of its studies. Contributing to the reputation of the institution are renowned lecturers, modern and high-quality teaching and successful graduates with high professional competence. The mission of the Faculty is primarily to provide high-quality education in the field of mechanical engineering and to ensure high-quality staff in the region and in Slovenia.
Given the above guidelines of activity, the mission of the Faculty is to:
The vision of the Faculty is to become a recognizable member of the group of the highest-quality faculties in the field of modern technologies, which will be able to constructively cooperate with regional and national economic and non-economic entities and to integrate into the European and global environment. In this way, the Faculty aims to become an established, socially responsible carrier of education and knowledge transfer in its environment.
